My journey from Vim to IdeaVim

While I was starting to use IdeaVim, I was searching for someone who tried replicating a functional VIM dev environment in IdeaVim. Instead I found a couple of recent videos and blog posts with either very simple use cases or overkill ones. Maybe I didn’t look enough or maybe I was used to a larger community coming from Vim, but this void pushed me to write about my journey.

The goal of this series is to document and share my step by step journey to switching to IdeaVim, hoping that it might help someone coming from or new to Vim. This post supplements my previous one explaining why I decided to quit Vim. Check it out if you’re interested.

The Format

Some configurations can’t be explained with just words, this is why I’ve decided to create a video series that goes along with the posts. The format of these videos will resemble to VimCasts, where each describes exactly one feature or a small set of simple ones.

The best way to follow this series is to start with the video if the section includes one, and use the blog posts to copy/paste the configuration and for the extra details I will be sharing. The posts also work great as a reference if you already know what you’re looking for.

The Start Line
